Who we are

Our School Board

The Eastern Townships School Board (ETSB), as it exists today, was established in 1998 following the amalgamation of the Bedford School Board (located in Cowansville) and the existing ETSB (located in Lennoxville).

The ETSB serves a diverse and vibrant region in the southeastern part of Quebec, with its territory encompassing eight municipal regional counties (MRCs). It provides services to students living in an area approximately 17,600 km2 composed of 175 municipalities, 97 of which are fully contained, and a population of over 650,000.

The ETSB consists of 20 elementary schools, three secondary schools, two vocational training centres, and an adult educational centre located across two campuses. Our schools range in size from small, close-knit communities of 20 students to bustling high schools of nearly 900 learners. While English is the mother tongue for most, many of our students speak French at home—highlighting the bilingual spirit of our School Board and the community we serve.

The ETSB team consists of teaching staff, support staff, professionals, management personnel and bus drivers.

The ETSB’s governance model is that of a Council composed of 16 elected commissioners, of whom 4 are parent commissioners. Participation of these members across various advisory committees and regular council meetings is robust and important to the success of the organization.

Our Mission

The ETSB mission is to provide its community with a learning environment with quality services to students that promotes academic and personal development leading to the attainment of graduation or certification and opportunities, allowing them to flourish and succeed naturally by unleashing their talents.

We are passionate people, moving forward together to make our School Board an ideal place to learn and the best place to work—anywhere.

Our Vision

The ETSB is driven by its vision that:

“We at the School Board are… passionate people who are moving forward together to make our School Board an ideal place to learn and the best place to work. Anywhere.”

To achieve this vision, the ETSB is working to:

A place of excellence, where students are at the centre of our activities, and where all students realize their full potential and are prepared for life: academically, physically, socially, emotionally and morally.

An inspiring place, where our staff is valued as individuals, makes a difference in the lives of our students and is ready to innovate and take risks to ensure student success.

A welcoming place where parents, community members and business partners have an important role to play in improving the learning environment of our students, providing concrete experiences and awareness opportunities to our students and is guided by its values of integrity, learning support and passion for excellence, collaboration, openness and innovation.

Our values

Inclusion

A culture of inclusion, where collaboration is fostered through openness, empathy, and respect. We believe that everyone has a place, a voice, and a role to play in our shared success.

Well-Being

A focus on well-being, where we nurture healthy and active minds and bodies—supporting our students and staff to thrive emotionally, socially, and physically.

Growth

A commitment to growth, where we invest in the continuous development of skills, confidence, and curiosity—encouraging courageous, lifelong learners who are ready for a changing world.
